Clarinet lessons

Beginner to advanced

Classical, jazz, klezmer

I am a teacher of clarinet performance and music theory based in New Orleans, LA.

Students of all ages have learned with me over the past ten years; together we have found music that ignites creativity and inspires.

My teaching is individualized to the students and their interests, background and learning style.

Students say

"Jennie Lavine has been a masterful and nurturing teacher for our daughter.  Jennie combines exceptional expertise, nuance, and versatility as a musician with all the skill, empathy, and good cheer of an outstanding instructor to motivate her students and teach them to excel."

"Jennie has a talent for giving insightful feedback in an encouraging fashion ... She is also an extremely warm person and a joy to interact with."

Judges of her students' performances say to them, "You are receiving incredible instruction and guidance."

Communal music teaching philosophy

My work as an educator is unified by the goal of fostering community, personal expression and a sense of continuity with those who came before.  Some of my favorite tools for this in group music settings include movement games and story-telling activities.  I currently facilitate group classes that focus on New Orleans traditions at the Musicollaborative and Make Music NOLA and on Jewish traditions and values at Shir Chadash.
